Violet Fairy Spray Recipe
Writing this blog post about my Violet Fairy Spray Recipe brought up wonderful memories of me and my daughter Chelsea in the garden. She loved to plant violets and pansies with me around our property every spring when she was young.
Take A Trip Down Memory Lane With Me
When Chelsea was a wee child, I would let her dig the hole and then I would plant the seedlings in the ground. She would then tamp the dirt around the seedling making sure it was snugly tucked into Mama Earth with loving care. As Chelsea got older, she was experienced enough to plant along side me. We would work our way around the garden beds, planting rows of violet seedlings along the front edge of our garden beds.
Tending To The Plants
Chelsea and I would walk around the property holding hands and check in on the seedlings, and because violets and pansies are such prolific bloomers, we had enough flowers to make a batch this violet fairy spray recipe within a couple of weeks.
I remember her favorite flowers were always the Johnny Jump-Ups… tiny purple and yellow flowers which seemed to smile at you from across the yard.

What Is The Spiritual Meaning Of Violets?
One of my great passions is teaching about the mystical and natural world, so I’d like to share the spiritual meaning of violets.
Common violet flower meanings include innocence, everlasting love, modesty, spiritual wisdom, faithfulness, mysticism, and remembrance.
According to Greek mythology, violets symbolize modesty. Violets were created when one of Artemis’ nymphs, who had all sworn to stay maidens, was being pursued by her twin brother, Apollo. To protect her nymph, Artemis transformed her into a violet, which in turn led the violet to become a symbol of modesty
And according to Christian symbolism, Viola odorata translates to “Our Lady of Modesty,” which officially associates the violet with Mary’s humble nature and devotion in the Christian tradition.
How To Make Violet Fairy Spray Recipe
This violet fairy spray recipe is about both color and aroma. Small, wild violets have a light scent; sweet violet flowers offer something a bit stronger.
Use this delightful mix as a fragrant room spray, light perfume or even a eau de toilette or body splash to bring a little fairy magic (fairies LOVE Johnny Jump-ups by the way!) into your life… who among us cannot us a little sprinkle of FAIRY MAGIC?
Now for the fun part and the reason your are reading this blog post – here is the recipe!
Ingredients:
Fresh wild or sweet violet flowers
Vodka
Clean glass jar with lid
Stainless steel strainer
Distilled Water
Rose Geranium essential oil or violet fragrance oil
Clear quartz crystal (chips or small tumbles)
Directions:
- On a sunny morning, pick as many purple violets as you can find. Place them in a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid and cover the flowers with vodka.
- Let the violets macerate (sit and soak) in the vodka for a 2-3 days. When the flowers lose their color, carefully strain them from the alcohol using a strainer. Replace them with more flowers and let steep for another few days in the alcohol, then strain and repeat this process until you have a bright blue liquid with a mild violet scent.
- Dilute the violet extract with one part distilled water (½ cup violet extract to ½ cup distilled water). Place in a clean sprayer bottle and add a few drops of rose geranium essential oil or violet fragrance oil to enhance the scent.
- Add the clear quartz crystal, label the bottle and store in a cool, dark place out of direct sunlight.

You can use the above method to create an array of natural, intoxicating spring scents like Lily of the Valley, Rose, Orange, Apple, Wild plum or Lilac (one of my favorites!). The different colors and scents of each spray will provide you with an array of options; simply pick the one to suit your mood! In addition, you can enhance the recipe of choice with different floral waters and essential oils, creating a unique mix. Here are a few ideas:
- For Citrus Lovers – Orange blossom extract mixed in a 1 to 1 ratio with orange flower hydrosol. Combine with a few drops of bergamot essential oil.
- For Hippies And Gypsies – My personal favorite … Rose petal extract mixed in a 1 to 1 ratio with rose hydrosol and a few drops of patchouli essential oil (to add mystery) or rose absolute essential oil.
- For Lilac Lovers – Lilac flower extract mixed in a 1 to 1 ratio with lavender hydrosol and a few drops of clary sage essential oil. Clary sage is excellent for removing negativity from spaces. This mixture makes a wonderful room spray.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are very powerful and should be used with caution. Always dilute the oil in a carrier oil before applying it to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and other sensitive areas, as essential oils can be irritating. When using essential oils around children, pets, or pregnant women, always talk to a doctor or aromatherapist first. If you experience any irritation, discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately.
I recommend using only high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils for diffusing and in your recipes. Your health is your wealth, so you want to make sure you are using the best quality possible.
