Spiritual & Muggle Ways To Celebrate Earth Day

April 22nd is Earth Day!

Truth be told… every day is “Earth Day” in my world.

I LOVE Mother Earth!

To me, our beautiful planet earth epitomizes The Goddess – The Primordial Mother – SHE Who Sustains Life.

My friend, I know that since you’re here reading my article, at times you feel sad about the state of our environment.

I’ve asked myself the following questions many times over the years…

How green should I be in order to do my part?

How green am I willing to be?  *Realistically speaking, it does take extra effort and money*

What can I do to stop the steady decline of HER health?

SHE Who Sustains Life

All of the holy books hold passages about taking care of our planet, flora and fauna within their pages too…

And for darn good reason, because we cannot exist without those vital life giving things – period

Here’s an excerpt from the bible:

“God created a marvelously rich and beautiful world that is indeed “very good” (Genesis 1:31). We honor him by gratefully caring for it.”

(And please feel free to insert the feminine aspect of deity; Goddess and HER in place of God and HIM, in the passage above if that feels good to you.)

So in honor of Earth Day, I thought I’d put together a quick list of suggestions and resources for you!

Spiritual and Muggle Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

Unplug Things: Reduce your energy consumption by unplugging “vampire power” items, adjusting your thermostat several degrees, using cold water only in your dishwasher, or line-drying clothes.

Blessing Bundle – Despacho Ceremony: A Despacho gratitude ceremony is an ancient practice used by the shamans in Peru to heal, manifest and give thanks for the many gifts of life. You can learn how to create a Despacho Ceremony here.

Earthing: Earthing is the practice of placing your bare feet or skin on the earth. There is said to be positive health and emotional benefits from Earthing. Learn more about it  here.

Walk a Labyrinth: Walking a labyrinth is a form of meditation and can be very beneficial to your well being. Find a Labyrinth near you here.

Grow Food Or Plant Something: I’ve been planting like crazy; 3 coconut palms, a mango and a papaya tree most recently.

Spend Time In Nature: Shannon and I try to do a beach day once per week. If you don’t live near or resonate with the beach, no problemo – enjoy nature in any way you can!

Join A Cause Or Group That Supports Nature, Wildlife or Gaia: Here’s a list of charities and organizations with integrity for you research.

Green Cleaning: Replace harsh chemical cleaners with natural, cheaper alternatives like vinegar, baking soda, or lemon juice and essential oils.

And in closing, I’d like to share this Hawaiian Indigenous Prayer with you…

Let us give thanks for the world around us.
Thanks for all the creatures, stones and plants
Let us learn their lessons and seek their truths,
So that their path might be ours,
And we might live in harmony, a better life.

May the Earth continue to live,
May the heavens above continue to live,
May the rains continue to dampen the land,
May the wet forests continue to grow,
Then the flowers shall bloom
And we people shall live again.
