How To Create Sacred Space & Activate Life Magic

Creating sacred space and activating life magic can be a transformative and empowering experience. To begin, it’s important to cultivate a deep connection with yourself and the natural world around you. This involves developing a sense of mindfulness and awareness, as well as practicing self-care and self-love. With a strong foundation in place, you can begin to explore different techniques and rituals that can help you tap into the energy and power of life magic. Whether you’re working with crystals, herbs, or meditation, there are many ways to activate this potent force and unlock your full potential. I’m delighted to share some of my beliefs and practices on this topic with you.

“I believe that life is a ceremony. I believe that ritual makes life feel more meaningful and fulfilling. I believe that you are holy and divine. YOU are sacred space.” – Lisa Marie Grantham

Words Have Meaning and Power

Let’s take a closer look at the words I’m talking about:

SACRED Definition: (adj.) worthy of or regarded with reverence, awe, or respect; holy.

The word sacred refers to something that is considered holy, revered, or deserving of respect and devotion. It often relates to religious or spiritual beliefs and practices, and may be associated with rituals, traditions, or objects that are regarded as having special significance or power. The concept of the sacred can also extend to other aspects of life, such as nature, relationships, or cultural heritage, that are seen as deeply meaningful and worthy of protection or preservation. Overall, the term sacred suggests a sense of awe, reverence, and solemnity that transcends ordinary experience and demands a certain level of reverence or reverence.

LIFE MAGIC Definition: (noun) Life Magic is the art of creating your own reality exactly as you wish to live it, in accordance with the laws of the Universe, nature and in sacred partnership with the Divine.

Life magic refers to the mystical energy or power that is believed to flow through all living things, and can be harnessed through various practices and rituals. It is often associated with healing, growth, and transformation, both on a physical and spiritual level. Some practitioners of life magic may use herbal remedies, meditation, or energy work to tap into this power and bring about positive change in themselves or others. While it is not a scientifically proven concept, the idea of life magic has been a part of many cultures and spiritual traditions throughout history.

What Is Sacred Space?

Sacred space is any space or area that has been dedicated to a sacred (holy) purpose. An emphasis on sacred space is found in all of the world’s religions and traditions and they all have places set aside as holy, that they use for worship, prayer, and important rituals. The name for this space differs according to faith (church, mosque, synagogue, sanctuary, temple, nature, etc.), but the point remains the same: it is a place where believers can encounter the Divine in a special and powerful way.

Sacred space can be a quiet, inspiring space for rituals like meditation or yoga, a place to work your life magic, or a place in your home or outside in nature where you feel more connected to what’s meaningful in your life.

As I mentioned earlier, I believe that you are sacred space. Your body is made up of each of the elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) and it houses your soul, and your soul is Spirit. It is sacred… so therefore YOU are sacred space and your body… a temple.

Creating sacred space in your environment lets you express your human need for ongoing spiritual nourishment and empowerment and it reminds you of your divinity. You can create sacred space at home, at work or in a “third space” such as a hotel room when traveling, or outside in nature.

Your sacred space might contain a single object such as a statue, a crystal or gemstone, an altar you deliberately create in a special location and for a specific purpose, or it may be an entire room, a garden or if you’re anything like me, your entire home can become sacred space filled with

consciously arranged furnishings, objects and decor that holds special meaning for you.

What Does “Sacred” Or “Spiritual” Mean To You?

I have found that divine connection makes me feel more centered, grounded and authentically happy. Your definition of what’s sacred is as unique as your fingerprint, yet unlike your fingerprint, your personal ideas and expression of what is sacred can evolve and change over time. I know mine

has in the past and I’m certain it will continue to do so!

When I first started on my spiritual journey, objects and “things” held sacred energy. I would find new crystals and gemstones… new statues and magical tools and they would take center stage in my sacred spaces. These days the sacred is not limited to objects and things in my environment, the sacred lives in my thoughts and feelings too. Spirituality is an evolution and your journey will reveal the next right step for you. I urge you to follow it and allow your spiritual practice to change and evolve over time just as you do.

What Will Your Sacred Space Provide You With?

Do You Want To:

  • Create a private sanctuary for meditation and prayer, or simply for quiet reflection?
  • Find serenity while you’re at home?
  • Amplify your health, vitality and wellness?
  • Designate a shared space for connecting with others, or for ritual or ceremony?
  • Co-create a family altar that continually evolves with spontaneous contributions from each member?
  • Promote abundance and prosperity?
  • Create a safe haven where you can feel supported and protected?
  • Deepen intimacy through regular family time in a special place?
  • Cultivate a deeper connection with the Divine?

Power Tip: Express Yourself and Activate Your Sensuality!

Make your sacred space personal. Choose the sounds, smells, and look that feels totally GODDESS to you. Women are sensual creatures by nature, so I invite you to activate all your senses when planning your sacred spaces. You know you’re on the right track if your chosen objects give you energy, inspire you or help you get fully immersed in your sacred practice.

Also consider using a screen, curtain or other boundary to make your sacred space feel more contained, relaxing and personal.

Why Do You Want a Sacred Space?

Creating a sacred space can be something you do once in your lifetime or every day, alone or with loved ones. Get creative… here are some ideas:

Celebrate and Commemorate:

  • Changes of season
  • Movements of the sun, moon or stars
  • Endings and beginnings of any kind
  • Anniversaries and special occasions

Specific, One-Time Events:

  • To consecrate a new space or transform existing space
  • To celebrate a relationship or a success
  • To mark an important beginning or ending in your life
  • To clarify an important decision or change
  • To be more present or conscious in any aspect of your life

Where Do You Create Sacred Space?

A single object can increase your awareness of your spirituality and connection with what is sacred to you. An entire room can invite you into exploring your deeper self. My entire home and farm is sacred space. I have the property protected with Black Tourmaline, I placed one large stone in each corner along with many places to sit and commune with nature.

You Can Create Your Sacred Space:

  • Where you can see it — across from your bed, desk, sofa or kitchen table.
  • As a small part of any room — whether it’s a single object, an arrangement or altar.
  • Wherever you have room — if not an entire room, then a corner of a room or even a closet.
  • In a secluded area — such as a spare room or a corner of your bedroom reserved especially for meditation.
  • In the garden — out of doors, when nature’s touch is what your soul craves.

What Kinds Of Items Should You Include In Your Sacred Space?

This is your personal space… what speaks to you, inspires you, emotionally moves you, encourages your heart center to expand, and/or makes you feel like you’re in communion with the Divine?

  • Mementos: personal items that are meaningful to you
  • Talismans: symbols of peace and safety
  • Photographs of loved ones and special places
  • Statues: traditional symbols of divine and protective energies like angels or goddesses
  • Favorite gemstones, stones or shells that hold memories from special places
  • Candles, incense and smudge
  • A representation of the four cardinal directions and elements;
    • AIR: East – Feather, Bell, Chime
    • FIRE: South – Candle
    • WATER: West – Chalice or Bowl of Water
    • EARTH: North – A Crystal or Gemstone
  • Color, light, texture, fabrics, carpets, mirrors, fountains, chimes
  • Plants, flowers and other living things – especially seasonal items like acorns in fall and evergreens in winter.
  • Musical instruments and favorite calming music or ambient music CDs
  • Personal divination tools such as Tarot or Oracle decks, Runes, a pendulum, Scrying Mirror, etc.
  • Sacred texts or words of wisdom — from any and all faiths that you resonate with.

5 Step Sacred Space Design

    1. Choose your location: Choose a spot in nature, convert an attic or guest room or simply create a corner or window seat in your living area that is dedicated to spiritual nourishment.
    2. Create a boundary: Hang a screen, beads, or billowy curtain to emphasize the importance of the environment as a place of solitude.
    3. Comfort is key: To set the mood for contemplation, meditation, or prayer, place pillows on the floor or find a comfortable chair that supports your back. Think about your preferred aesthetic? Do you like Moroccan, Bohemian, Celtic or Asian influences in your design? Do you like an eclectic mixture of styles?
    4. An altar is a must: Set up an altar with spiritual objects to bring in the energy of spirituality. Each object can be placed with an intention for going deep within your heart and soul. Creating an altar can be as simple as draping a small table with fabric. On top of the table, place items such as a scented candle, incense burner, essential oil diffuser, or natural objects that represent the four cardinal elements. You can place a symbol of your religion or spiritual practice as well.
    5. Magnify the magic: Add plants and flowers for energy, color and increased oxygen. The color lavender and purple symbolize spirituality, pink opens the heart, green brings in nature’s balance and yellow stimulates health. Hang pictures of gardens, mountains, spiritual teachers, angels, or mentors to impart a feeling of peace and harmony. Soft music and an insightful book will offer you inspiration.

Setting Up An Altar

You probably already have a few altars set up. A woman’s need for altar is so deep that many times we create them subconsciously and without even realizing it! A grouping of trinkets, mementos and tokens given to you by your children, loved one or partner… or a gathering of sentimental photos carefully arranged on a table are examples of how we outwardly express our inner need for sacred or holy spaces within our environment.

Each item you lovingly display in your home makes a profound statement about which values and traditions are most important in your life. Some people may minimize it and call it decorating, but I like to think of each grouping I create as a personal shrine to everything and everyone I hold dear and love. I have many groupings in my home that represent the things in my life that are most meaningful to me. I consider those places where I have placed my ‘treasures” sacred and holy. They’re a daily reminder to me of how blessed and abundant my life has been, is today, and will continue to be by the grace of God and the Goddess.

Creating an altar is so powerful that it has been shown to fill an inexplicable and nagging void in many women’s lives by helping them to connect with the mysterious and powerful Divine Feminine. It doesn’t matter what religion you follow, creating an altar is a tradition any woman can join in and I highly recommend you doing so. A deep and authentic connection to the Divine Feminine and your Inner Goddess will help you create an empowered, goddess lifestyle.

Why Have An Altar?

A home altar is a small temple or sacred space (if you will) within your home or place of work. It can assist you with the journey towards inner healing, self-awareness and self-integration. An altar can also help you find the courage and inner strength to face life’s challenges and will give you a place to honor celebrations and holidays. You can use an altar to connect to the Divine during times of life transitions and rites of passage.

There are so many key moments in life such as births, deaths, baptisms, graduations, marriages, divorces, career changes, holidays, the changing of the seasons, etc…that a home altar can be utilized and enjoyed. Home altars help you stay connected to “Source”. In addition, one of my altars is my Abundance Altar and its purpose is strictly for manifestation and celebration. I adorn my Abundance Altar with gifts such as fresh flowers, fresh fruits, beautiful smelling candles, and my coveted “treasures” which create a metaphor for joy, happiness and beauty.

There are a multitude of altars you can create but here’s a list of the most common:

  • Altars to honor the Divine Feminine
  • Altars for manifestation of desires
  • Altars for healing
  • Altars for personal integration
  • Altars for gratitude
  • Altars for abundance and prosperity
  • Altars for self love
  • Altars for creativity
  • Altars for relationships
  • Altars that honor the seasons
  • Altars that honor your ancestors and your heritage
  • Altars for protection

The list goes on and on…

Remember that sacred spaces and altars are yours to create whenever you feel called to. Always honor the desires of your heart and soul. Trust your intuition to guide your choice of location and the objects to include in your creation.

Mystical Blessings,
