Mabon Autumn Equinox

Mabon: The Autumn Equinox

Mabon and the Autumn/Fall Equinox is a time to harvest blessings and seek balance. It’s celebrated anywhere between September 21 – 23.
Technically, an Equinox is an astronomical point, and due to the fact that the earth is always moving, the date may vary by a few days depending on the year.
The Autumn Equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the Equator on its journey South, and we experience a day and a night that are of equal duration – on this day the Sun shines equally on both hemispheres.
After this point, the nights will once again be longer than the days as we head towards winter.
The Autumn Equinox is the counterpart of the Spring Equinox, the day and night on both of these days are balanced.

Who Celebrates Mabon?

Mabon is a harvest festival and giving thanks for the crops and for an abundant growing season has been celebrated since the dawn of time.
Mabon, one of the eight sabbats of the Celtic Wheel of the Year, is also the second of three harvest festivals – Samhain (Halloween) is the third and final harvest celebration and that will happen in about six weeks on October 31st.

I Think Of Mabon As Thanksgiving For Goddesses!

Everything in life is cyclical, so I believe following nature is an vital aspect of living a Goddess Lifestyle. I have found that there is so much wisdom and divine intelligence in nature if we tap into it’s rhythms and stay open for the messages. So I invite you to celebrate Mabon and “enjoy the harvest” by preparing a beautiful meal to share with your loved ones!
Look to Mother Nature for her queues on how eat and decorate your altar and sacred space. Some examples are; apples, squash, kale, acorns, buckeyes, pumpkins, gourds, autumnal colored leaves, feathers etc. The colors of Mabon are red, orange, yellow, green and brown.

Mabon: The Autumnal Equinox – A Time To Harvest Blessings And Seek Balance

Magical living is based greatly on symbolism, so on Mabon we rejoice in our own “personal harvests”.
Back on New Year’s Eve, when the light began to make its return, you most likely set some intentions or created goals – aka New Years Resolutions.
Mabon is the perfect time to check in on your progress. As a matter of fact, in some traditions, the Father Sun sacrifices himself at Mabon for the good of the land.
In the colder parts of the world, the trees have begun to drop their leaves and nuts, this is a queue for you to follow suit… what needs to fall away in your life?

Mabon Journaling Questions

Take some time to think introspectively or write in your journal about the following questions:

  1. Have I harvested everything I intended to have in 2015 thus far?
  2. If not, what’s standing in my way?
  3. What strategies can I put in place to ensure I can move through those blocks?
  4. How can I utilize the magic of Mabon to achieve more balance in my life?
  5. Where in my life do I need more clarity and balance?
  6. What bad habits or toxic behaviors need to go… to be sacrificed, so I can manifest my 2015 desires and goals before the end of the year?
  7. What needs to fall away so you can move forward? Bad habits, limiting beliefs, toxic relationships are just a few prompts to get you thinking on this important question?
