Technically, an Equinox is an astronomical point, and due to the fact that the earth is always moving, the date may vary by a few days depending on the year.
The Autumnal Equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the Equator on its journey South, and we experience a day and a night that are of equal duration – on this day the Sun shines equally on both hemispheres.
After this point, the nights will once again be longer than the days as we head towards winter.
The Autumnal Equinox is the counterpart of the Spring Equinox, the only two days of the year that are exactly equal. The day and night on both of these days are balanced.
Who Celebrates Mabon?
Mabon is a harvest festival and giving thanks for the crops and for an abundant growing season has been celebrated since the dawn of time.
Mabon, one of the eight sabbats of the Pagan Wheel of the Year, is also the second of three harvest festivals – Samhain (Halloween) is the third and final harvest celebration and that will happen in about six weeks on October 31st.Find out how to celebrate #Mabon & the Autumnal #Equinox like a magickal #Goddess here! Mabon: The Autumnal Equinox – A Time To Harvest Blessings And Seek Balance
Magickal living is based greatly on symbolism, so on Mabon we rejoice in our own personal harvests.
Back on New Year’s Eve, when the light began to make its return, you most likely set some intentions or created goals (you know… New Years Resolutions).
Mabon is the perfect time to check in on your progress. As a matter of fact, in some traditions, the Sun God sacrifices himself at Mabon for the good of the land.
Here in the Northeast the trees have begun to drop their leaves and nuts, this is a queue for you to follow suit… what needs to fall away in your life?
